We used chalk again, today letting our creativity flow through art. The focus ended up being animals, Julian drew a bumble bee, Ms. Jessie worked on a frog, giraffe and a pig and Charlotte drew a butterfly.
After drawing all the animals we did an activity where the children had to pick which animal would win in a fight. The children stood on a log and we held up two pictures with a different animal on each, you hopped off on whatever side you picked. For example, Polar Bear vs. Hippopotamus. It led to some discussions on why each animal might win, could it fly away? Or was it big and strong? Or fast?
Up the hill we did safety check and then played the Squirrel, Bobcat, a favorite game. Today almost all the squirrels wanted to try being bobcats and chasing down the squirrels and it's great watching their growth in games. Today we couldn't collect yellow cones, instead of pink just to throw us off.
After our game we read a book called Leaf Man where all the artwork was made of leaves, including the leaf man. As we read we enjoyed our snacks, before going to collect some unique leaves to make into leaf animals and monsters. Using glue, googly eyes, leaves and cardboard we created some cute leaf animals, bugs and monsters. Calliope spent almost an hour working making multiple animals and bugs, making beautiful fall artwork. Ask your squirrel if they enjoyed the craft and ask them to show you their art.
Leaf crafts merged into freetime, where both kitchen and tools were very popular. Everyone wanted to try hammering nails into foam squares, perfect for nailing practice and saws were also loved. There was lots of growth in the tool circle today, exploring new tools and getting more comfortable with them.
In the mud kitchen it's still warm enough for water which means mud creations. Strong tea with spices, chocolate loaf and soup- the possibilities are endless .
After cleaning up we read a story called King Mouse before walking down the hill to learn a new game.
Some of us had played it before but mostly it was a new game called camouflage! Hiding behind bushes and trees and collecting food and water-the squirrels were awesome at learning this new fun game.
We had a great day together, thanks squirrels!!!
