Today we read a wordless story about a Snowman, a rabbit, a bear, fox and penguin. The Squirrels enjoyed interpreting the story together and predicting what was going to come next in the plot. You could ask your Squirrel why the rabbit tried to steal the snowman's book. After the story we worked on our own snowmen made out of pine cones and cotton balls. Bryn, Breanne and Arya spent a large portion of the class making these little guys with Mrs. Dawn. The bluff was quiet today making for a peaceful atmosphere to craft in.
Meanwhile Justice and Witt were busy trying out some new tools in the tool circle. They tried out using the drill and a hammer and chisel to free some dinasaurs from ice. They tried out using the tools on some very soft wood that is super satisfying to break apart. They also had their hand at setting up and using a pulley as well as practicing their rope skills.
We spent the latter of the class mixing colours and making potions with old paint bottles and the mud kitchen. They observed how the colours mixed together and how to make different shades of pink and green. This play evolved into an imaginative game of castle where the queen and her archers fought off monsters and protected the potions. It was hard to pry them away from the game to head down the hill when the time came to end the class. It is lovely to see the bonds and friendships being made between the Squirrels as they spend more time with one another.
