Again we practiced having chickadees land on our hands, tempting them with black sunflower seeds. Today we had more successes, Liviya, Alden and Taryn had the birds land on them for the first time. What a magical feeling, watching them land on peoples hands, seeing the children's faces light up with joy and happiness. Our wood cookie art is also back from the gallery, so we got to bring those home today. Chalk art is also back and the squirrels made an underwater scene with all the creatures they thought of, mermaids, fish, crabs, jellyfish, turtles and seahorses. At our spot we had some tires to play with, so we had a challenge: get the stuffie through the hanging tire as it moves! The squirrels are always game to try a challenge, and we counted points (up to 25!), moved it for our friends and worked together to master it. Then Maeve had an idea and we made two swings, that promptly all the kids lined up and took turns swinging on, working out the dynamics of taking turns and making sure everyone had an even amount of time. Stick wrapping with coloured yarn (your squirrel might have one to show you) as we read a book about robins. It is dandelion season, which, according to Ms. Jessie means dandelion bread. We all worked together to pick 10 or 12 each and bring them to our spot where we picked the petals off to put in our bread. The squirrels combined their petals and measured out two cups and then each got an ingredient. Everyone took a turn putting in their ingredients when it was time and stirring the mixture, and now our bread dough was brought home and will be baked and brought back next week for us to enjoy! For the last portion of class was freetime, some playing on the swings and others finding the biggest dandelion. Today we had tea leaves to add to our kitchen, making our creations smell amazing and the tiny world was back with the little wooden house with some dolls, which sparked lots of imaginative play.
