There was great work done on the snow mound this morning. We also found out that it is 0.8km from the drop off place to the snow mound, which made everyone feel pretty great about their 4.2km hike last week. Thank you Alex and Piper for putting up the tarp so that we could have a morning snack under cover from the beautiful snow. After sliding onthe snow mound, the Owls went to check out a ice slide that some community kids made. There were great observations about the skill of the build as the Owls noticed the steps carved into the ice and the pitch of the slide.
After lunch the Owls built mini fires in teams or by themselves. The fires were all successful! The Owls are learning how to prepare their own materials and to build a fire from one strike of a match to a stable fire that is not in danger of dwindling out. Great job!
Once the fire was built and Gregory roasted his bread and steak, the Owls started making torches. It was hard because the wood was old and not fresh, but the Owls persevered. The torches were made, but alas we ran out of time before we could light them, which we will do next week!
