What a fun day at forest school! The weather was perfect to practice our fire skills, we need mild weather plus a good snow cover. The Squirrels practiced match lighting, everyone has their own tin to place the discarded match in and as they become more confident we place things in the tin they can try lighting on fire. Once everyone could light a match consistently we tried lighting, cotton balls, lint, paper, cardboard and cotton cloth. Ask your Squirrel which was their favorite to burn. Match lighting is a tricky skill and most of the Squirrels were able to get to success!
We also used the kelly kettle for the first time which allows us to boil water efficiently, the Squirrels were very good about giving the kettle lots of room and waiting patiently for their tea. I can see many more kelly kettler fires in our future.
We played in a new spot today which allowed for some great exploration during free play, some of the Squirrels found a home (with a door bell) and were moving around rocks. Some played in the kitchen while others tried snow baseball. Ask your Squirrel which activity they joined.
We also played some new games today and the Squirrels loved them! The animal games is something we hope to build reach class. Ask your Squirrel which game was their favorite today.
