We started with a few parachute games, Whack a kid that Jono, Soren and Kellen invented in the hammock a while ago and being wrapped and spun in the parachute. We talked about how it was important that everyone had a turn who wanted one and to do that the Squirrels needed to stay and help spin even if they had already had a turn. They did and everyone was spun twice which they loved.
We read the story Bear Finds Eggs and Ms Rikia showed us round an obstacle course which we then tried while also carrying an egg on a spoon. We balanced and jumped and encouraged each other round. Jono said it reminded him of Beast Master on TV so if your child asks to watch the show you know why! When we'd moved through the course we decorated an egg to take home or enjoyed smashing and mushing an egg.
In free-time there was more obstacle building, something we will continue with next week so if there is anything your child wants to bring to create an obstacle bring it along.
We set up the tool circle with hammers, saws and knives and are working on the rules we have at Forest School to enable the Squirrels to successfully use the tools and keep them and others safe. Ask your Squirrel if they remember what the red rope is for around the tool circle. (Hint: This marks where we can safely use the tools inside the red rope. It also helps keep people safe who are not using tools as they know where they are and it ensures the tools don't get lost around the forest)
