Welcome back Rowls! It was great to see everyone after the holiday break and how they missed each each other. The morning was chilly and we started with a few games to keep warm, the energy was great and we did some suicide drills to practice our double ball skills on the snow covered ground which made it much more difficult but that much more fun!
We did some mapping and they had to find the matches hidden around the forest by using landmarks, they did very well, they know the forest like the back of their hands. Once the matches were found they worked on their fire skills (which was really impressive) ask your Rowl how they made their fire start and what materials they used. They tested to see what would catch on fire and for how long it would last. It was great to see how well they handled working with fire and adding tinder and kindle when needed.
Once everyone was able to make their own contained little fire we put them all together and melted some wax to make their own fire starter by dipping cotton balls in the melted wax. Then some kids went and grabbed snacks to roast on the fire, it was interesting to see how their carrots, tomatoes and chicken wrap turned out when roasted, some even tried roasting their granola bars! This is an activity that we will continue as they show a lot of interest in.
The rest of the morning was spent sledding down the path and trying out different types of sleds made of a wood plank and rope and even a ski blade, we will be exploring different materials that would make for a good sled and they will have the opportunity to build it themselves.
After having lunch in the cabin we played a few games of double ball to practice for the the big game, stay tuned it should be in a few weeks time.
The day ended with the Squirrels inviting us to play games with them, and they had tons of fun playing Blob tag.
