Rowls, Jan 16

The ROwls talked about a new name today; we are bouncing around a few ideas, from the Bobcats to the Foxes ...we'll keep you posted!

We used a combination of fire skills and map skills to engage ourselves this morning. We are practicing noticing landmarks and using them on a map, and reading the maps of others. We found the objects hidden by the other group, and with those things we had a chocolate fondue! We heat the chocolate and coconut oil over the fire, and dipped our fruit into it with our sharpened sticks - amazing! We had more chocolate than fruit, so we dripped and spooned the chocolate onto the snow where we created 'chocolate coins'; this spawned the idea for chocolate bark, filled with nuts and dried fruit - we can't wait to try this out!

In the Cabin we began our leather double balls, the final version we'll play with! Each child is making their own, using new leather making skills and materials. So far we have cut out the leather and punched out the sewing holes. I'm excited to see fit these balls play any differently.

And, of course, sledding! This free time activity involves a lot of negotiating of sleds (this is done purposely!) and alliances being formed. This is important social skill building time!
