Red Foxes, May 28

upstreamforestschool

Today was urban Forest School at it's best! On our walk along the river, we found some new plants that we'd like to identify...and we collected some old favourites to eat, thanks to Greyson's balsamic vinegar. Yes, he packs his own wherever he goes!

At the beach volleyball court, we enjoyed learning some volleyball basics, but also cave digging, collecting plants and bouldering. Soon we were deep into the skateboard park...literally! Check out the pictures to see where we went! We noticed that the whole class came together for this activity; the older ones were challenging themselves as much as the younger ones, and the older ones helped the smaller ones out of the bowl, setting up a system to help them.

On our way home, we enjoyed a break in the shade to paint our 'wonderings' from the day. Ask your Fox what they painted, and why!

Then, back at our spot, we picked dandelions to make Dandelion Fritters (fried in oil, of course!) and drink our Dandelion Coffee, which we harvested last week. The coffee was a hit; with the cream and sugar, it was delicious. And no caffeine!

It is lovely to see the class coming together in a cohesive group, and to find something that challenges them all. The older Foxes rose to the occasion, and enjoyed themselves in the process! The younger ones both showed them some skills, and appreciated their help.

Next week, we'd like to go on the bike ride! The weather looks good, so we'll strike while the sun is hot! Please bring your child's bike and helmet to the regular spot. Thank you!
