Last week the Owls were trying to hoist each other up by slinging a rope over a branch and pulling. The friction made it too hard to really get anyone off the ground. This week we added pulleys, diagrams of pulley methods and climbing harnesses to the equation and we were able to get air time! Thank you Anaia for being the first to test it out. Everyone in the class had a chance to go up if they wanted and everyone helped to pull.
The success of the pulley system moved into a desire to make a zipline. Interest in it waxed and wanned, but Ary and Anaia were persistent to the end. Unfortunately it was to the end of the day and not necessarily making a working zip line. We will bring supplies next week to make all the learning from this into a successful zipline.
Before lunch the Owls foraged and made Rowan Berry Jelly. It took time and lots of sugar. The jelly was sampled at the end of the day with bagels. Hmmmm it's an interesting taste. Ask your Owl what they thought. Could they get over the bitterness? Hot tip: apparently it is good with roasted meat.
It was a special day, because as we drifted into the afternoon we said goodbye to Mrs. Lea as one of the main Owl teachers and welcomed Mrs. Brie to join the parliament. It was tough to say goodbye and the Owls promised revenge on Mrs. Lea, but we shared some thoughts and worked on a group drawing as our debrief to end the day.
