The Owls are on to making weapons! The interest was sparked during free time and will continue over the coming weeks. There was work on bow and arrows, that we will finish this coming week. We are also going to start cross bows and sling shots. Along with tool use we talked about how and what to harvest when making weapons. What wood works best for what and what is okay to cut down. The only live wood we harvest on the bluff is Carragana because it is an invasive species (brought to Alberta from Siberia because it is so pervasive and is a good wind block for the prairies).

The Owls were challenged with tying a Monkey's Fist. It is a complicated knot and when you think you have it you have to tighten it, which takes time and patience. Luckily a fun social circle began while finishing up the knot that had the Owls all together facing a shared challenge.

Working together as a class the Owls have challenged the Foxes to a game of 'Keepy Uppy'. The Owls have managed to keep the ball up for 25 hits and have tried all sorts of different techniques. We will see if the Foxes can beat them or if they can beat their own score this week.

Another interest of the Owls at the moment is decorating and adding to their forts. The upper fort has become a central part of an ongoing game that involves shape shifting animals, survival and magic. Not all the Owls are as interested in imaginary games and so during free time the class breaks off into the fort builders, a survival skills group, the crafters and the imaginary gamers. Some of the Owls move fluidly between all that is happening.
