Owls, November 28th

upstreamforestschool

Things that I am grateful for as a forest school teacher:

1.) Having reason to spend a day in the hoarfrost and sharing that day with 8 incredible kids.

2.) Witnessing and partaking in the excitement of an early morning sled.

3.) Supporting their interests and helping to sustain a big dream. Re: Digging out the fort from last week. Navigating with them the disappointment of the unexpected. Giving them space to remake plans and to work as a class to uncover the old burrows and tunnels while making new ones.

4.) Equipping young people with the knowledge of how to stay warm when it is very, very cold.

5.) Not solving problems, but coaching them to problem solve.

6.) Helping to navigate how to share when there is an obvious best shovel that would help everyone in their task. It's hard to give something up and settle for something lesser.

7.) Exploring new frontiers with younger minds - ie: checking out the curling club as a possible indoor space. Ask your Owls what they thought about the curling club, building burrows in bread and potatoes and how they liked watching the curling.

8.) Setting out in the cold again for an epic sled session down the gully.

9.) Sharing moments and hearing their stories from the week passed.

10.) We are so grateful to be able to offer a space for these kids to connect to nature, to one another and to themselves.

P.S. It was too cold to take many photos. We are also very grateful for Ari. Ask your Owl what happened to Ari when we arrived at the snow fort.
