Owls, May 30th

upstreamforestschool

The day started with a bit of a surprising downpour. It was raining much harder than anyone had expected it to. We all decided that rain or shine always bring an extra pair of socks. We started with a small class, but Huxley, Bean, Anaia, Ms. Melanie and Ms. Rikia put up a pretty awesome tarp under the pressure of getting soaked. Once the rain eased off and more Owls showed up we got into a game of Tweenie. Somehow it was the Owls against the teachers. You can imagine who were the first ones out. Next we went into a game of Sticks. It's a Blackfoot game that is kind of like capture the flag but with sticks. The first game, Ms. Melanies team won in 9min! The second game came to no end however. The sticks are still out there to be found!

We settled down for lunch and to ring out our socks. Some were dried on a clothing line and some were spread out on the tarp. No one is entirely sure, but somehow lunch turned into Hazel having an Upstream spa experience. The Owls did not hold back on anything. Leftover tea was used to warm up mud for her foot and hand mud scrubs. She had massages, cucumbers on the eyes. You name it they provided! Perhaps something to master for next year's market.

During and after spa time The Owls set up an obstacle course with some new elements added. It was spread out and included a high swing, a rope climb, the slack line and hoops. It was pretty impressive for what could be the last obstacle course of the year.

We ended the day with a game that only Anaia and Huxley really knew, but it got everyone involved and running around with one common goal: to capture and tie up Huxley!
