The cold didn’t stop the OWLS from having a fun-filled day today! Ms. Lea joined us for the day as Ms. Rikia was away today. We started our day with a new game: Giants, Wizards and Elves. Lots of running and dodging and two big comebacks for Gregory and Ms. Heidi at different points in the game! We then transitioned into practicing our stealth skills with a game of Eagle Eye. This was the first time the OWLS played it on such a large scale, which provided lots of opportunities for sneaky tactics to retrieve the chicken/rabbit from the eagle's nest. Much self-control was required. Unsure whether the crows ever successfully stole the eagle egg, but we sure had fun! Everyone was peeling off layers by this point in the morning from running up the hill so many times.
We transitioned to a spider web challenge requiring much teamwork and creative thinking to get each team member through a hole of the spider web! The challenge level was certainly amped up with so many layers of clothing today. We will try this again in warmer weather when our clothes won’t get in the way so much!
Free time included wrestling, group capture and escape from a rope and lots of enjoyment in the fresh snow.
Lunchtime brought an opportunity to practice building our emotional vocabulary and empathy skills. It was great to see each OWL contemplating the various emotions they choose and when they feel these emotions in their lives. Ask your OWL which emotion card they got today. Ari introduced us to the card game “What’s in your fridge?” and Ms. Lea introduced Pizza, Taco, Cat. We finished up our inside time learning the Truckers Hitch.
Outside again, the OWLS faced a retry of the rope team balance challenge from last week. This time, after many iterations and employing their newly learned Truckers Hitch to get the rope tight the team found success. Congratulations on your effort and perseverance, OWLS! Here’s to doing hard things! We took advantage of the snow with some sledding and nest/wall building and wrapped up our day with a nature debrief! We are looking forward to our field trip to Nosehill next week!
