After much consideration the Rowls unanimously have changed their name to Red Foxes. They no longer wanted a 'make believe' animal and felt that the Red Fox was more appropriate.
Our morning started with some mapping games using a compass to guide them out of "jail", it's only been a couple classes and already the students have shown a good understanding of Cardinal and Inter Cardinal directions. The Rabbits joined us for a treasure hunt, this time we used rope to measure distance instead of steps, ask your Red fox how they felt about using the rope to measure and if they think it was more accurate then using steps. We will continue to build on this skill as we navigate our surroundings.
As it warmed up in the afternoon, we continued with building their fire skills and it's evident how much the kids have improved in their skills from lighting a match to chopping wood, they can build a fire with very little direction. Last week the Red foxes practicied melting wax and pouring it in moulds they created out of clay, this week we tried melting pewter and found out that it took very high heat to melt it into liquid, but once removed out of the heat it would cool immediately and harden. This made it a challenge for some to pour it fast enough before it solidified, ask your Red Fox if they had to re melt their pewter to create their peice, ask to see what they made.
To show some love to the birds, In celebration of Valentines, the class made some heart shaped bird food to hang out in the branches as a little treat for their feathered Forest friends. Hope everyone had a Happy Valentines!
