The day started with the Animal Game. To ensure everyone was on the same page with who eats who we reviewed a food chain that started with the sun and ended with scavenger birds feasting on carrion and eventually the bones returning to the earth. As the game played out the natural cycle of things was interrupted by natural and not so natural events. The carnivores were infested by Botfiles, the omnivores lost their habitat to logging and some vulnerable plants were trodden on by runners straying off the pathways.
After a little snack and 'nap' the Foxes teamed up in pairs. Each team was given a pumpkin to design. Before they were allowed to carve into the pumpkins, they had to move their pumpkin along to the next team to work on their design. This tested some of the Foxes as they handed over their designs to the hands of others. Could they trust their classmates? Could they do their best to carve out other team's designs? Ask your Fox what kind of conversation was going on as the pumpkins toured around the circle.
After lunch, the Foxes broke off into teams again to work on knots and shelter building out of tarps. To some knots come easy and to some, like for Mrs Rikia, knots continue to challenge them. We are super proud of the Foxes determination and commitment to learning some new knots. Three tarps were hung - all serving a different purpose. Ask your Fox what type of weather, environment, use their tarp would serve best.
After the tarps. and some free time, the Foxes each received an apple to carve a face into during a sit spot. We are going to dehydrate the apples and will continue next week to make our apple face dolls. They're not the sweet kind of dolls you find at Toys R Us. We will go more into the history of the dolls next week.
