We started the day with trying out some big builds. Although they weren't all totally successful, we are learning and have ideas to move forward. We made a ladder where every Fox contributed by lashing a rung. We learned some ways to make it easier....like measuring lengths first so you don't have to use the saw to even things out. We also tried to make a pole swing. Although it didn't work quite as expected we have some ideas to make it better.
After building, we moved to science and asked the question if a sparkler would stay lit while moving through an egg. The discussion was robust. Some thoughts were that it would go out....we asked the question if there is oxygen inside an egg....would it explode? Ask your Fox what they saw, felt and smelt. What were some of the differences in the way each egg reacted.
After making scientific recordings in our journals we moved to some needed free time and headed to the ice mound by the curling club for lunch. We were on our way to the wetlands, but the Foxes had plans for the ice mound. There was a lot of discussion, jostling of tasks, dedicated work and the making of beautiful glitter ducks. Nearing the end of the day the Foxes made it through and connected two tunnels! The excitement was heard all over Sunnyside. As the Foxes dug through the ice they worked on their gross motor skills as well as their organization, debate, social and logic skills!
