Thanks to Vita for writing the blog and I love the way your sources filled in the blanks for you!
We started off our day with some tracking, studying some local tracks and using a Native American method of tracking by asking ourselves some questions. To me, they helped put myself into the mindset of the animal.
Then we walked to another area for our scavenger hunts. Instead of using red strings to mark the path, this time we used white, which wasn’t actually as hard as I thought it would be. I felt that our courses were pretty equal, and we might’ve won if one of the objects hadn’t been buried in the snow… but I won’t go there. My favourite object was the teal-blue shiny stone. It was like Fitz’s eyes. (For those who don’t know, Fitz is a fictional character from a series called Keeper of the Lost Cities—very well-loved among some of us in the Coyotes)
Anyway, my team did lose the game, and the consequence was… talking to random strangers. It was pretty funny to see people’s reactions, and I’d definitely do it again.
Also along the way to the cabin for lunch, we stopped by the banks of the Bow River. The ice was in blue-ish sheets about a foot and a half thick! Some of us slid a little bit down the ice toward the edge, fastened with a rope around the waist to be pulled back up. Some of us got out the chiseling tools and started chipping away at the ice experimentally. Safiya, Hiba and I made a Keefe face jutting out of one of the sheets of ice, with some of Lucy’s artistic guidance(Keefe is also from Keeper of the Lost Cities) and I must say, the resemblance was certainly there.
Then we finally arrived at the cabin to have lunch. I didn’t get to finish the day, since I was picked up early. But my sources say that Bridgette taught some more dance. Then the Coyotes went back and made a fire, and cooked chocolate-mint scones. Apparently they didn’t really cook all that well, but I’m sure they were still delicious. And it sounds like they did some sort of ladder rock-paper-scissors thing?
Can’t wait to have you back, Mika! We missed you!
