Cottontales, November 27th

Priya and Avyn had a private class on Wednesday and we stayed out for the entire class barely noticing the cold!

The Cottontales are a crafty class and so we are shifting to incorporating winter elements like the cold into our activities. What better way to embrace the winter than to make a shelter and enjoy lunch and a story while warmed by candles. The Cottontales are still learning to keep their snack gloves on at all times and how not to get them wet.

After lunch and a story about how wolves and dogs we ran around for a bit playing Predator Prey. Ask your Cottontail who was the scariest carrot and the most timid lion.

After we warmed up we set about making fairy fires. The Cottontails had to practice patience while tending to the first steps of fire making. That is collecting fuel, making tinder and kindling all before the fun part of lighting the tinder. They learned a valuable lesson that to keep the fire alive you have to make sure you have done all the prep work. Avyn and Priya were both diligent and patient in getting their tinder lit, coaxing it on to the kindling and then keeping it alive, which is hard when you are keeping it small. We talked about how baby fires have to be constantly fed and cared for with gentle hands just like human babies.

For free time we offered Avyn and Priya some dyed ice blocks to chisel and carve. We ended the day with some epic sledding and trying to build a bobsled track.
