We have started a chapter book with the Cottontails and are looking forward to reading chapters at the beginning of each class while having a snack/lunch. Parents, lets talk if you want your Cottontail to have a lunch at the start of every class or a snack. If you think lunch would be a nice way to start we could incorporate cooking on the bluff with our class. The Cottontails seems to really like to cook and eat!
We kicked off our activities with a game of Sardines, which kind of turned into a game of deer tracker. This was a good way to build trust with the Cottontails and their full exploration of our area.
Settling down into carving we used potatoes to make bird feeders. We used fine carving tools instead of knives to give the Cottontails a different feel on how to make different notches in the potato. After the tool circle we moved into free time, which was mostly made up of wild swinging in hammock town. Ask your Cottontail.
Drawing everyone back we prepped apples for warm, cinnamon applesauce and practiced moving with 'mindfullness' around the stove. While the apples cooked we started our journals, which the Cottontails worked on with detail. Once the applesauce was made we shared our journals with one another and enjoyed the yummy sauce.
