From the start of class the Cottontails were talking about how much they want to go to Prince's Island. We talked about the responsibility of going as a group and how it is a long way to go, but they unanimously voted on making the trek. So check your inboxes with details to come!
During snack time we continued to read 'My Father's Dragon' and left off at quite the cliff hanger. Ask your Cottontail about the story and if they can remember where we left off. Thank goodness for Mrs. Anika's recollection skills to remind us of what happened in the book last week.
Moving from story time we had a fun game of Owls Nest. In this game the Cottontails realized that slow and stealthy sometimes works better than fast and loud. We also had a game of hand tag, which Mattaya won!
Next we set out to harvest some fallen tree branches to make a fort. It was a whole class effort and everyone had a hand at sawing. Some ended up taking their sticks to work on with intricate notches while others focused on the fort. During this time we introduced the slip knot to help with capturing animals or friends. Jono put in every effort to master the slip knot and he succeeded more than once. It's tricky but we are getting there!
Taking a break from fort making we headed down to the bike track for a couple laps, a climb up the tree fort and on to gather mint for tea. This class walks well together. Along the way we found some nice 'fun guys' (fungi) hanging out on trees.
After gathering the mint, Avyn helped the whole class up a steep hill with his red rope and we gathered to make mint tea. The Cottontails are familiar now with the stove and after a few reminders of how to move safely around it the tea was set to boil.
While the tea was brewing the Cottontails worked on their journals. This time using glue, feathers and loose parts to continue decorating their front cover or work on todays entry. Once the tea had steeped we headed over to the fort and sipped tea while sharing our 2 Roses and Thorn for the day.
