Autumn is here and the leaves have started to fall! We started the day with making a leaf pile to jump into from our 'Giving Tree'. Mettaya was the first to take the jump, which encouraged everyone else to give it a try.
During lunch we finished 'My Father's Dragon' and had a good discussion about the animals in the story and the trickery; ending with a good laugh while imagining all the animals floating down the river on the crocodile's backs.
While Mrs. Anika played a parachute game, Mrs Rikia set up a fishy obstacle course that had to be traversed while carrying fish eggs (pompoms). It was hard and the Cottontails learned about all the obstacles a trout might encounter as they swim upstream to spawn. We also learned that Minnows are actually called Fry and Alevins are the stage of a fish's lifecycle where they carry an egg sac around to feed off while they grow into Fry.
This led into free time. There was some great adventures with Mrs. Anika pulling kids up the hill from the bike track; there was potion making with Rowan Berries from a Mountain Ash tree and there was cooking up a warm oatmeal drink to be shared over journal time.
Before sharing our journals and the warm oatmeal drink we took a sit spot to make a self portrait in our journals. We shared our creations while sipping our drink and our rose and thorn for the day.

We also collected Rowan berries to make jelly next week!
