Squirrels, Mon 22 Jan

Maybe the last of the really cold days for the Squirrels on Monday. Through the cold spell they have all tried their hardest to enjoy the outdoor activities we have been involved in before they calmly tell us that feet are getting cold and we know to head to the cabin. We have some resilient Squirrels!

Today the Squirrels were excited to find a note from Squizzie Squirrel and Belinda Blue Jay. They had left pictures of winter wonders that the children could look for or movements they could try. Ask your Squirrel if they remember something we looked for. Something that caught everyone's attention were the large snowflakes collecting on our clothes. We looked at the different shapes and sizes and enjoyed shuffling through the fresh snow on the ground which was like feathers.

Inside we made thaumatropes, an optical illusion toy. There were some imaginative ideas on what to draw on either side of the paper. We also got to smash the salt dough geodes we had made last week. They took some getting in to, first we tried to carve them open and then decided hammers would work better and be a lot of fun!
