Squirrels - June 4

Today some of the squirrels had a Lemonade and Popsicle store. They did some advertising, and eagerly served behind their "counter" log, taking money, telling me the popsicle flavors and serving up the "food". We had a snack and read a book about finding things. Since it is Lev's birthday this week, he brought mini cupcakes to share with us, Happy Birthday! At the request of Witt, we played lots of games, Octopus tag and What Time is it Mr. Wolf? The kids love being it during these games, so we took turns off the attendance list, and had fun being chased along with being it. After some games we did a maker project, that included some carving, which we haven't done for awhile. Everyone found a stick roughly the length of their arm, and at least one glove for the holding hand and we did a quick tool safety refresh. Then we carved all the bark off our sticks, some of us made points, and sanded down the wood so it was soft. With the help of a teacher, we tied the flexible Willow wood into a circle, wrapping a colour of string of their choice to hold it together and then tied it on more string to their stick. The goal was to make a ring toss game, you yanked the stick, having the hoop go up in the air and then tried to get the hoop on the stick. Your squirrel might have one to show you! Free time was an obstacle course Maeve made up and the camping game from last week, and playing with our new game. With one more cupcake (thanks Lev!) we walked down the hill. Thanks for another great day squirrels!
