The Squirrels are embracing spring with their curiosity about the different tracks that we can find on the bluff. Ask your Squirrel about what animals we think live on the bluff and why. You can also ask them if you think there are more hares in the neighbourhood or the bluff and why. This was a good discussion that led to the talk about predators and prey. We dipped down into the bike track to look for animal tracks, but unfortunately the ground was already quite dry. So we made our own to cast prints out of plaster of Paris. We will be dusting them off next week to bring home.
After free play in the bike track we headed back up to the bluff to work on our carving skills. This week we had carrots in addition to potatoes and swizz army knives. The squirrels are learning and practicing their knife skills really well and were able to make some good points on their carrots. Most of the squirrels decided to eat their carrot after it was done.
