Spring was in the air, and the forest was full of mud as the snow has disappeared. It was a great condition for our mapping activity, the kids were divided in 2 teams and each member of the team had a role and responsibility in hiding treasures on the map and using symbols to show the location. They had fun exploring and working as a team and even continued as a class to figure out how to beat the Owls bucket challenge record of .5 seconds, which was beaten by the Red Foxes.
Now that the weather is warm enough to take off the mitts and gloves, we continued our coding with Morse Code and played games where everyone had a word to code and took turns sending the signals with the Morse code for thes rest of the class to decode then race to get the object. It's impressive to see them starting to recognize codes immediately, Grayson in particular has memorized 11 letters in Morse wCode!
We spent the afternoon playing sword fights in an arena and the Red Foxes were in charge of making the rules and respecting everyone's boundaries. The kids are more aware of what is acceptable rough play and and what is not, we ended our day reflecting about feelings and how to deal with them. Very proud of the growth within this group, and seeing bonds and friendships being built, most of all respect for one another, great job Red Foxes, looking forward to next week's field trip orienteering!
