It was a gorgeous fall day and we enjoyed each other's company and the activities we were immersed in.

We created 'yarn stars', also known to some as tiger eyes or throwing stars. This task first had us find sticks and saw them to size, then required the perseverance of wrapping the yarn in a purposeful pattern around the sticks. Some of the students were not interested in this activity when first introduced, but those same kids ended up enjoying it the most, then using the stars for their free time activity! This was a good chance to talk about trying new things and not writing off activities at first blush.

We also did some mapping activities and talking about cardinal directions. We created a map of our area and took turns hiding stuffies, then placing a marker on the map indicating the hiding place and challenging others to use their skills to find the stuffy. We will work more on maping and directions next week, but a fun optional activity this week with your squirrel would be to have them create a map of an area in your house or yard.
