The Owls are working on some mapping, compass and navigation skills along with how to be sneaky. We started the day with some games that tested the Owls sense of direction as well as their judgements of when to make a run. They also had to work as a group to play one game that made them slow down, where strategy won over speed. Ask your Owl about what games they preferred; was it Around the world; Sneaky Squirrel; or Coyote Stick?

We decided as a group that the Owls like to have an official snack time as well. So we started having a snack and story time. We started the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen.

During the tool circle the Owls were busy making weapons from their imaginations as well as designing crossbows and pickaxes. There was a lot of sharing of knowledge, skills and ideas. It was lovely to see them working together to make ideas materialize.

After lunch the Owls broke off into groups and set out treasure hunts for eachother. They were tasked with leaving enough of a trail so that other groups could successfully track the route to treasure, but to make it difficult enough so that it wasn't too easy.

At the end of the day we forewent our journal plans to play an epic game of Capture the Flag with the strike camp kids. With 24 kids in the game and the strike camp kids outnumbering them, the Owls played heroically. The strike camp won the first game and the second game was tied. Ask your Owl if it was hard to come up with strategy as a group and what they learned from the first game vs the second game.
