Surprise! Two blogs for the price of one!
Here are some highlights from our cold Forest School days!
From Mika:
"Guess what the coyotes saw on our game camera today! A coyote! A huge accomplishment, a goal we had had for a while. We went crazy when we saw the picture. Some other highlights were making our own sleds and testing them out, I made a snowboard out of an old ski. There was also a human powered dog sled, and another sled on a ski, with extra padding. In the cabin Ms. Dawn helped us with some sketching which was a bit of a challenge, but also fun. We sketched birds and squirrels we had caught on the game camera. We also played the animal game, and a bird version of captains coming with recorded tapes of birds that live on the bluff. I really liked doing our fire challenge today too- we had to make a fire and boil tea on it with flint and steel in five minutes. The water took more than one minute to boil, so it was more like a seven minute fire, but that's ok and then we enjoyed warm tea."
An interview with Florence about the last two weeks:
Teacher: How did you survive the cold?
Florence: By dressing warm.
T: What did you think was going to happen on these cold days?
F: That I was going to freeze.
T: Did you? F: Yeah.
T: But was it fun? F: Yeah. The ice cream was good. But it could have been mixed more.
And finally, today we made modifications to sleds, and made a short video (TikTok?) about our sleds!
I will DEFINITELY be considering purchasing one of those incredible sleds! 😁
