Squirrels - January 30

Today the squirrels enjoyed some more free time now that we have warm weather. We were also joined today by Ms. Rikia and her son Adrian, thanks for coming and playing with us!

The squirrels had new snow molds that we could use to make ducks, penguins, hearts, gnomes and bears. Together, they made a museum of all the creations on display.

Together we acted out, and shared a Blackfoot story. Everyone played a character  in the story using a picture of our seven animals, (Natosi) sun, forest and water.  That led to freeplay with animals in a house, and a group of kids really enjoyed imaginary play with each other. It was a really great dynamic, enjoying unstructured playtime.  We also played with the kitchen items and snow molds again.

Since we have been doing fire recently, we made fire starters that light and burn very easily. Each squirrel put dryer lint in a bit of egg carton and then by lighting a tea candle with a match we can drip wax on top of it to protect it. Now if the squirrels want to start a fire (with help) when they're camping, in a fireplace or fire pit they can use their fire starters!

On the way up and down the hill we enjoyed Coyote Mouse - a favorite game! The squirrels were tricky, distracting the coyote with a Look over there, so they can run across without being tagged. The kids enjoyed being both coyotes and mice, but overall they enjoyed being tricky mice most!
