It was exciting to see the ROwls engaged in good old fashioned imaginative play today! Last week we had quite a lot of group time, so this week we made sure to carve out time for the class to explore their own ideas and passions together. It turned out wrestling was a part of that, and also...chase the monkey and take her to the zoo! Even though this free play may look chaotic, we are watching for how the children interact in that adult-free (or at least, perceived!) zone. What play cues they are throwing out, and who responds, and how. We love it! It is also just fun, and a group bonding time!
Double Ball down in the open field was much more of a challenge for us - there is so much space to use! We are getting better at keeping the ball away from our opponents. We are also enjoying working towards a representation of our spirit animal, or an animal we think is like us. We painted the background/habitat for it, after sanding and cutting our wood cookie, and we will add the clay next week! Thanks to Lala for her instruction in this area!
Ask your ROwl:
what is your favourite position to play in Double Ball?
what does your painted wood cookie look like, and why?
do you have ideas for what you could make for the market?
