The Red Foxes are impressive in their orienteering skills! They were motivated by the technology as well, I think; a timing chip that records the order you found the controls, and your time. If you're interested in more of this, there is a club, Orienteering Calgary, and a program called SOGO Adventure Running. We have access to the orienteering maps, so can use these skills in parks closer to us!
After making a fire using only found wood, and the challenge of starting a fire solo, we enjoyed some bannock to fuel us for our hike.
We didn't have a lot of time, but we climbed the Douglas Fir Trail to find a frozen ice flow, due to run off and melting snow, and enjoyed using it as a slide! The ones who preferred to mountaineer set up a rope to use as an aid. We felt like true explorers!
We could have spent much longer here...we look forward to other field trips in our future! Thanks for getting them all there!
