Our cycling adventure kicked off with a quick review of riding rules, ensuring everyone felt confident and ready for group riding. Excitement buzzed in the air as we set off towards St. Patrick's Island, our first stop was the towering hill where we challenged our class: team up and create the best rolling ball using only natural materials, twine, and tape. Rocks of all shapes and sizes, along with copious amounts of twine and tape, came together in a flurry of innovation. After several thrilling races, a winner was crowned. Then the students then transformed into human rollers, fearlessly tumbling down the hill, giggling as they got dizzy and lost a few shoes along the way!
Once everyone regained their balance, we headed to the nearby playground for more fun before making our way to a small lagoon for water play and lunch. The highlight? A shallow, flooded pathway that sent up a perfect spray of water as we sped through on our bikes! The creativity continued with a boat-building challenge, with plenty of tape and imagination at play.
A refreshing breeze dried our damp clothes and socks just in time for our next treat: a visit to the ice cream shop in East Village. We indulged in delicious ice cream, a sweet reward for the hard work at the student’s Christmas Market. Fully satisfied and a bit sticky, we rode to another playground where games of tag and handshake murder took over, each more inventive than the last.
As the day wound down, we rode back to the Bluffs. During our debrief, the group expressed their joy and excitement, already eager for the next adventure. The only regret? Not cycling further! But that's a challenge we're excited to tackle next week.
