Last Thursday marked the longest Moose Game in the history of the Owls. Two moose were used, rules were refined, strategies and objectives changed, and the Owls had a good run around to start the day. We also had a long game of handball that went to ten points. It was a close and energetic game! We took a water & snack break and played a game of invasive species, which was fun and also brought up some questions about what makes an invasive species invasive, what invasive species do we know about on the bluff and what can we do about invasive species. Refreshed we set to work on our knot tying skills by tying up our friends again. Mrs. Donna was a super player while Calvin worked fastidiously on the unbreakable tie-up! Huxley practiced keeping tension in the rope while tying knots as he helped to set up an incredibly long slack line.
Breaking for free-time we brought out the tool circle and a craft circle. Tucky is making progress on his hand-made chessboard. Anaia wove sticks and ropes to make a barricade. Others played on the slack line and hammocks.
Over lunch we played a game of Taboo using North American Wild life cards. It was a hit!
We spent the afternoon making preparations for a Blackfoot game called Make the Stick Jump. First we found sticks, then we carved them and then we wraped them to make different designs. Once the sticks were completed we positioned them in different distances from the start and tried to hit them with a bean bag, stick and ball. Points were given to the sticks depending on the difficulty of hitting them. Everyone took multiple turns trying to beat each others scores, but mostly trying to beat their own. After the game we gathered to discuss and work on items to sell for the Winter Market. More sticks were made to sell as a game kit while Max and Machen worked on a giant burr ball. The ideas of what it could become are endless. I look forward to seeing what it becomes! We ended the day with a sit spot of sanding sticks for future Make the Stick Jump sticks.
Next week we will have Mrs. Rikia and Mrs. Donna again.
