Happy Halloween! We hope that you all had a fantastic night and your Owl got lots of candy. For the day of Halloween we tested the Owls with the gross and gruesome. Parents, you might want to do a wash of mittens and outerwear from this week.
To start the Owls played a game of fish and flags capture the flag. This was the third day of using the fish so they had seen better days. The Owls were intriqued by the fish and after the last game of capture the fish and flags we disected one of the fish. It was hard to tell what was what in the fish, but the gills were fascinating. They looked like parts to a flower.
Moving on the Owls played a game of minefield that with every wrong move they had to pick something from our buffet of gross to taste. There were dehydrated tapioca pearls, pickled chestnuts, prawn chips, cottage cheese cookies and more. Some of the foods weren't so bad and Akium took a particular like of the canned chicken sausage.
Before lunch the Owls had an hour of free time to work on their tool, rope and poi skills while some returned to their fort game. There was movement from the original fort while some of the Owls tried out new spaces. It took a lot of dialogue to keep the game going over a larger space and adding two new forts. The Owls practiced their negotiation and listening skills to keep the game alive. We will see what next week brings.
After lunch the Owls played a competitive game of moose handball. With each point scored the scoring team got to add an ingredient to a drink that the opposing team would have to drink if they lost. The Owls gave it their all and tensions and teamwork ran high. It ended up that the drinks tasted like noodle satay and mostly everyone tried both drinks. Mrs. Lea arrived just in time to sample the creations.
In anticipation of a visit from Lea the Owls created their own minefield game that Lea had to solve. She had help from Ari and Bean, but every miss step ended in her having to eat a dehydrated tapioca pearl dipped in the handball drink. Big shout out to Mrs Lea for playing along and solving the minefield!
The day ended with the walk of fear. There was fish, squid, squishy tofu, tapioca pearls, mouse traps, spaghetti and more. The Owls were blindfolded (Anaia went blindfolded) and they had to make their way through the slime while avoiding the mousetraps. They were able to choose one trusted classmate to lead them through. We're happy to report that all the Owls made it unscathed!
