There is nothing like playing amongst ice all day and feeling the warmth of the sun on your face. The Owls learned about ice safety today and witnessed just how quickly massive ice slabs can break off into the river. The rule today was that we could not be on an overhang. We looked to see how we could tell if the ice was an overhang. We felt okay on ice that went straight down to the banks - it being at least a foot thick. We used ropes to slow explorers down and ensure only one was out at a time.
The Owls were definitley tired by the end of the day. We covered quite a bit of ground. We ate donuts from Avyn and Alex whose birthdays it was. Next week we are going to make something savoury!
Ask your Owl about the tracking devices (rocks) set out on ice floats. Ask them about the red alerts. Ask them about how we purified water and what it tasted like. Ask them about the giant collapse of the overhanging ice slab. Ask them about who got their backpack peed on.
