Owls, April 11

upstreamforestschool

What we have learned from the Owls is...there is no shortage of creativity! We can bring a wagon full of ideas, and they will come up with their own, based on the weather, the environment, and the plethora of ideas they seem to carry, at all times!

The morning consisted of taking stock of who lives in our Bluff, and where do they like to be. A map was begun of the Bluff, in order to tract the tracts that we find! For example, the bike track is full of squirrel prints, so we know they love to play and live there. Moving around the bluff was the best way to find them, and soon a sand pit was found! It was hard to leave this place...

We will be placing a wildlife camera somewhere on the bluff, in order to have data about who lives there. We are choosing the right spot, and who we want to spy on! The data will be uploaded to Zooniverse, where it will be tabulated and recorded.

The afternoon saw us make a fairy house out of 'only natural' building materials, take down a dead tree, and practice our orienteering skills.

Ask your Owl:

  • did you work on the fairy house? What did you contribute? What would you change?

  • what track did you decide to make a mold of? Why?

  • Why did you take the dead tree down? What was that like?

  • Where do you think you should go next to practice orienteering?
