The foxes are so into fort building that we thought to start the day with some practical skills. We challenged them with knots and lashing. The first challenge was to create a way to transport one person using three big sticks and three ropes for lashing. You can ask your Fox if they liked to lash in an X pattern or a U pattern, or perhaps a combo of both to get the tightest lash. What did they learn in the challenge? What worked best for stick collection? This followed with some small engineering challenges that were all to be tested by Dell! Later in the day we went over the square knot and the butterfly knot. If you think your Fox is confident in the knots perhaps ask them to demonstrate.
The Foxes are working hard on their forts. They have added pulley systems, different levels, storage units etc. Currently there are three different groups. As much as they are working on the structures and decorating the forts they are working on how to co-exist, how to invite others to help, or how to ask if they can join someone's efforts. The forts are all very close to each other and so they are very much impacted by each other's actions.
We took a break in the middle of the day (after lunch) to have our sit spots. Would it help to energize for the afternoon if we had some quiet time? The Foxes were given the choice to work on knots, to embroider their journals or to listen to a spooky story from the Pacific Northwest Coast.
The day ended with a war of casualties (the wounded were painted) and medics tried desperatly to save them!
