The teachers kept saying, "What a perfect day!". The weather was amazing, the sky a typical fall sky, and the colours just on fire...we wanted to stay there all day and night. Magical!

Once we made it the short hike in, we scoped out where we would climb. We chose an earlier climb for the first one, and a harder climb for the second one. A common refrains was; there's no where to put my hands!

Everyone seemed to try a little beyond what they were comfortable with; whether that was that one more step on the wall, or trying a different, harder route to the top. We are so proud of them!

From Mika:

Our climbing trip out to Yamnuska was magical, everything was turning yellow and rippling in the breeze and it was warm and sunny, I could have stayed on the ridge we set up on forever. I really enjoyed trying outdoor climbing for the first time, so much more freeing than climbing in a gym, it was well set up so that we could choose lots of routes with different difficulties to set up our rope from the top of the ridge, and then walk down to below it to climb. We each got to climb twice, and getting to the top was rewarded with a view spreading out across the horizon, one of the climbs had a fun press move at the top and a crack for wedging! I love climbing, so seeing my fellow coyotes enjoying climbing was special, I hope we can come back, I definitely will be!  Thank you for driving, belaying and making it possible Ms. Lea and Ms. Dawn!

You can ask your Coyote:

-did you trust the rope?

-did you trust your belayer?

-what did you learn about rock climbing (both the technique, and the mental part)

-what helps you when you feel afraid? what worked at Yamnuska?

-where was your favourite spot of the day? where woud you have liked to hang out for longer?
