This might be the most extreme outdoor day we've had in a while - it rivals Elk Lakes! We'll have to compare stories in the new year to decide!
I tried to describe to my family what the blizzard was like; make a wind tunnel-like noise. Blink your eyes open and closed really fast. And throw ice at your face. That was our day! But...we loved it! It was exhilarating, exciting, challenging and unique! All of us said the storm was both our 'rose' and our 'thorn'.
Thanks to Ari, our local knowledge expert, we took refuge in some caves along the river bank. On was warm enough to eat some lunch in, looking out the window into the storm. We did take 1/2 hour to create our fire fuel and apple crumble packets in the info centre, and then went back out to make the quickest fire we've every made. It was a day of wins!
We look forward to January, where we'll try again for apple crumble, and a 'wild random cooking contest'. Can't wait! Happy holidays to all of you - see you Jan 7!
(You're welcome Hazel! You get January's blog!)
