New in from Vita:

Today the Coyotes started with a workout consisting of climbing up the stairs leading up the bluff, going back down, and then doing a group exercise. We did the stair-workout about five times, quite exhausting. Some of us took it to a new level and jumped up the steps of. Then we went to a field and talked a little bit about our Land Acknowledgements for the upcoming camping trip(can’t wait for that!) Then we went up to our usual spot on the bluff and ate lunch—it definitely wasn’t the same without Bridgette, Hiba, and Safiya. Can’t wait to have you guys back! After lunch, we planned a bit for camping and played some Revenge Tag, with the Cottontails joining at the end. We worked on our felting projects, and I think it’s starting to come along a bit more! After, we played a game where one person stuffed a pinny in their pocket which was the “tail”, and then they plus some other people circled around a cone and one person was cast out, and then they had to either steal the cone or the tail. This eventually evolved more into our Bull-In-A-China-Shop game, which is quite similar. We discussed the Leave No Trace rule for our camping trip and played out some skits to get into our brains. Me, Lucy and Mika got fire safety, and making the skit was really fun!

Can’t wait for our camping trip coming up!

  1. Begin with how you got here (Calgary) and your relationship with this land. When did your family move here? From Where?

  2. Treaty area: how do you benefit from the treaty, and what do you know about the treaty?

  3. Whose traditional territory do you live on?

  4. What actions do you currently take or want to take to be a part of reconciliation?

2: The Elk Lakes Cabin is located in East Kootenay Land in BC which is the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa, for which the area is named after. The western stretches of the Kootenay are also traditional territory of the Okanagan tribe and the Secwepemc.

3. I live in Calgary which is under Treaty 7, which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy, the Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Stony Nakoda. Calgary is also home to the Metis Nation of Alberta,

4. I want to learn more about indigenous culture and language,

And from last week, thank you to Kayley for the photos and video.
