Iron Chef Deliciousness!
Iron Chef Deliciousness!

Thanks to Lucy for the blog this week. Who's going to volunteer next week?!

Heyyy, how’s it going? Today was the very anticipated day itself… Our Iron Chef Competition! Shoutout to everyone who came and gobbled up all our dishes :).

And what a lovely day it was too—a warm sun and a light breeze really made the morning for me.

Heading up to our usual spot on the beloved bluff, a game of animal card-tag commenced. With the same rules as normal card-tag, this version uses animal cards to decide rank. It was a close game! There was lots of debating over which animal could take down the other… What do you think? Could an orca defeat a polar bear?

Afterward, a short-lived game of Forest School volleyball was had. Unfortunately, we popped the beach ball in the first rally with one good strike. Meanwhile, teams rehearsed their food skits, while others practiced how to self-rescue with pulleys and prusiks up a tree. But Ms. Dawn rescued us all when she returned with our favourite giant rainbow rubber ball. Let’s just say volleyball’s a lot more fun when you can headbutt the ball and get hit in the face without landing an injury. And even though we may have played longer than we ought’ve, we still had a ton of fun and got a bunch of great rallies! And that’s all that really counts. (Thanks to Anika, Ms. Lea and Dawn for catching the ball every time it went down the hill!)

So it was Sammy's Park next! Wood was chopped and shaved (we are getting quite efficient at prepping fires). Lunch was munched on, maybe even a bit stolen from others. And finally, both fires were lit! Now, you’d think that having nearly a dozen people with each team cooking three separate noshes would be havoc. And it kind of was. But it was also better than I expected. Dough was rolled, carrots shredded, while soup simmered. Fires were constantly in need of care, meanwhile, cookie dough was eaten and egg yolks hastily added. Wonderful scents filled the air, which must have been what attracted the crowd of families.

Before we knew it, time was up! All the dishes were carefully arranged on a table, and it was quite the spread. Each team performed their little skits; some involving costumes, others props. Then it was time to eat….

Food was served, notes were written down, and conversations were enjoyed. We couldn’t even devour all the leftovers by the end! The only thing to do then was to clean up and wash the quantities of dirty dishes (thanks, guys).
