Cottontails, October 16th

upstreamforestschool

I have to say that the Cottontails rowan jelly was the best that I sampled this year at forest school. Cottontails for the win! Perhaps it was the ratio of sugar and apples that made the bitterness of the berry a little more subtle. How did it go at home? Apparently it is very good on meat or loafs and is very high in vitamin A.

Besides from jelly sampling the Cottontails became very interested in the tool circle and making weapons or spoons. A number of bows and spoons were started that we will work on this coming week.

During free time we went down to the bike track to test out Avyn's remote control truck. Somehow it just ended up in his bag without him noticing (smiley face). It was a fun treat to have for free time and a game of chase came out of it that got Jono, Mettaya and Avyn running laps around the bike track. It was nice to see how Avyn helped Mettaya and Jono operate the truck and they all took turns being chased.

Meanwhile Priya and Breanne took care of their animals up in the tree house. One of the boards has fallen off the ladder climbing up the tree so it took some new ways to climb up and down.

As always, journaling captured everyone's attention and it was hard to break them away from it at the end of the day. For sit spot the Cottontails took a leaf drawing from a trail guide and sketched it in their journals. Coming back they used water colour to fill in the sketch.
