It was cold but oh so beautiful. The Squirrels persevered with smiles and exuberance! We gave the Squirrels an old sled which they loaded with their backpacks and took turns pulling it. While heading to the fort we found last week the Squirrels found a new hill to slide down. It took a few runs, but once a track was set it was a good ride!
We continued through the forest to the bike track to find the fort. It took a little discussion about directions but the Squirrels found it without the teachers help. Once at the fort we got busy with saws. The idea was to saw through a fallen tree. It proved to be harder than expected. While sawing Priya started to collect the saw dust to use in the kitchen. Breanne was steadfast and Jono tried chiseling apart the tree.
Attention drifted from sawing to gathering sticks for the walls of the fort. Priya and Breanne worked on the interior of the fort while Jono worked on the exterior. We got tarps up and had a rest in the fort with coffee and sundaes made by Priya.
Before we knew it an hour and a half had flown by. It's wonderful when our minds are so immersed in something that we keep moving and our bodies stay warm. That said, it was time to head to the cabin.
At the cabin we finished off the art piece for the art show opening this weekend at Franz Dof Gallery in Kensington. The Squirrels loved to see how the felt set from last week. This week we sewed words into the felt and drew animals on wood cookies to put into the piece. We also read a silly story about Piranhas and Bananas.
