Today was quite chilly, but with the sun shining and a forest covered in snow, it was a perfect weather for sledding! These Foxes had so much energy to burn, we played a few games of 10 pass with Emery and Maryam against the rest of the foxes, they won a couple times while outnumbered! Great job girls!
To keep warm we continued to stay active by playing 3 way captured the flag which showed how each team worked together to strategize in obtaining the most points without being tagged.
During lunch at the cabin we discussed how people used to communicate long distances without telephones, some kids had mentioned homing pigeons, telegraph, and Miss Lala introduced Morse Code and explained how this secret code was invented to allow long distance communication using radio transmission during WWII. Ted had shared his knowledge about how Morse code was made up of dots and lines to make secret messages so that enemies could not decode them. Thanks Ted, who by the way knows the Morse Code for SOS by heart! The students were given Morse Code Decoders and had to decode messages to one another using a Morse Code tapping machine. At first they found it difficult to write down the codes from hearing the tapping, and getting used to the pauses to know how many letters/words, but after awhile they even remembered some codes for letters. They had a lot of fun with this activity, and we will be learning more about Morse Code and exploring more decoding in the next few weeks as we incorporate it to our daily activities. See if your Red Fox remembers any letters in Morse code.
The 'Wild' art project is almost completed and we are excited to visit the gallery and to set up our Art for the exhibit next week.
We are looking forward to the Opening Day next weekend!
