Today we took our houses home - after at least three weeks of building! We played with shapes and design, and voila! We are now looking at perspectives, through using clay and popsicle sticks to make 2D and 3D objects, and drawing objects (a candle, a pylon, a roll of tape) from an aerial perspective.
Then, we took poster board and drew an aerial (bird's eye) view of our houses and the surrounding area, essentially creating a map. They have labelled the parts on the map that are significant, and next week we will add the official parts of a map (cardinal directions, a legend, and possible texture!). The children are using their spatial awareness skills and writing skills, wherever they are at, to create their masterpieces.
