Rabbits/Owls, Jan 23

upstreamforestschool

We certainly took advantage of the warmer weather today! From a mapping activity in Sunnyside (ask your child where we ended up!) to some last-minute double ball practice, being able to have our hands free of mittens is a luxury!

One example of how we manage risk at Forest School came up today. During our Sunnyside activity, we went through some alleys. Some of the children became quite attached to a BBQ cart that they found. They paired this with the seat of an office chair in an attempt at a double decker sled!

As they are still in the building stage, we haven't completed a full assessment of the possible hazards, and how to lessen or eliminate them. When they are happy with it and ready to test it, we will have a conversation about the risks of the using the sled, and what they can do, or have to take out, in order to manage the risks. There is a level of risk we are all comfortable with; a bruise from a fall might be accepted, while a high probability of a broken bone will not be! We will do this as it evolves!

Here are some more details about our upcoming double ball tournament!

Your child has offered to bring a snack to share - it doesn't have to be sugar based (no matter what they tell you...)

Can't wait!
