Owls, January 8th

The Owls came back full of energy and lots of smiles. We started the day with sledding to make the most out of the 'crispy' snow. There wasn't as much snow left after a couple warm days, but it was fast. The Owls are keen on inventing new types of sleds. The mechanics of creating their ideas is practicing their patience a bit, but once we see that it's not so hard to drill into a ski a whole new world will open up. It is also nice to see how safety conscious some of the Owls are in putting together their contraptions.

Sledding evolved into a bit of a King of the Hill game. Ask your Owl who got thrown down the hill the most and who managed to stay at the top the longest.

There has been interest in remodelling the teepee to include an extended entrance. A grand hall if you like. This might take some time to get all the sticks/logs, but the Owls have a vision. They are also working on merging different visions to work as a group. While the teepee was being worked on the Owls also set up the giant sling shot again. This time they used the Foxes design, which once we found the plastic ducky to use as ammo was a huge success.

The Owls are keen to sell hot chocolate for the skating party on January 24th from 10am-12pm. We discussed ideas of what to sell while chiseling ice blocks to make little cups..which would make great lemonade cups, but we figured are pretty labour intensive.

Over lunch the Owls played Mafia in the cabin and then we set out to Sammies park to make fires and roast the smores that Avyn brought to share before Christmas. Ask your Owl how their fire went. If they could have unlimited wood to get the fire going, what type would they choose? What was the hardest part of making the fire? Did they work alone or with a partner to make their fire?
